Muscogee (Creek) Nation Principal Chief David Hill says the Nation is closely monitoring the federal funding pause ordered by the White House Office of Management and Budget. The memo, released Monday night, was to take effect Tuesday afternoon, but a federal judge blocked it minutes before it did.
In a statement posted on Facebook, Hill said the Nation’s team is communicating with federal partners “to advocate for the best interests of Muscogee Nation citizens.” He said “the OMB order recognizes a distinction between non-statutory funding” and other statutory obligations, such as the federal trust responsibility to tribal nations.
Update: OMB rescinded the memo on Jan. 29, 2025.
